


Restoration of St Patrick's Church, The Loup

Introduction
The following description has been taken from the 'Northern Ireland Environment Agency' listings for Historic Buildings.
"Built in 1861 for Rev Patrick Quinn, the Church is B2 Listed (1976) and is of various architectural and social / historic importance, alterations to the interior appearance. A Mid 19th Century Church of masonry construction in Gothic revival style, comprising a nave, 2 aisles, aspidal chancel, and a western tower in the angle between nave and aisle on the south side."
A striking building, St Patrick's is constructed using black Basalt and sandstone in a Gothic renaissance styling. The focal point for our parish area, comprising some 600 families, it is essential that the heritage and function of the church is preserved an protected for tour future generation.
Understanding and Appreciating the Problems and Challenges.
The church building, given its prominence and significance for the local community must be preserved and retained, unfortunately however due to its age and other factors, it is becoming increasingly rundown, unwelcome and dysfunctional.
